Advanced Dvorak Technique (ADT)
Validation Product Information
  • Operational ADT 8.2.1 was utilized for both estimates. GOES-East was used for operational runs while GOES-R was used for Proving Ground "PG" runs.
  • Statistics utiize the NHC Working Best Track information for intensity and position information w/in +/- 3 hours of aircraft reconnaissance
  • Statisitcs are homogeneous. ADT estimates must be w/in approximately 15 minutes of each other and closest eastimates w/in 2 hours of Best Track.
  • Intensity matches only utilize Best Track estimtes with HU (Hurricane), TS (Tropical Storm), or TD (Tropical Depression) designations, while Position matches are not constrained by storm type designation.
  • ADT MSLP estimates have been derived using the CKZ methodology.

  • Intensity histogram bins are centered upon the value specified. The exact bin extents are (in knots):

    -20 : >-22.5 to ≤-17.5
    -15 : >-17.5 to ≤ -12.5
