Tropical Cyclones
Storm Coverage Warning and Forecast Information

To maximize continuity, the CIMSS Tropical Cyclone group uses official TC warning and forecast products from the NOAA/National Hurricane Center (NHC), the NOAA/Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC), and the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) at Pearl Harbor, HI. Tropical cyclones may be recognized by other official Regional Specialized Meteorological Centers (RSMC) and Tropical Cyclone Warning Centers (TCWC) but not recognized by the JTWC, leading to a possible discrepancy between TCs displayed on our page and other Centers around the world.

The official RSMC are :
Southwest Pacific Ocean: RSMC Nadi - Tropical Cyclone Centre / Fiji Meteorological Service (Nadi, Fiji)
Southwest Indian Ocean: RSMC La Reunion - Tropical Cyclone Centre / Meteo-France (La Reunion Island, French Overseas Department)
Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea: RSMC - Tropical Cyclones New Delhi / India Meteorological Department (New Delhi, India)
Western North Pacific Ocean and South China Sea: RSMC Tokyo - Japan Meteorological Agency (Tokyo, Japan)
Central North Pacific Ocean: RSMC Honolulu - Central Pacific Hurricane Center (Honolulu, Hawaii, USA)
Northeast Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and north Atlantic Ocean: RSMC Miami - National Hurricane Center

The official TCWC are :
Southeast Indian Ocean (south of 10S): TCWC - Perth / Bureau of Meteorology
Arafura Sea and Gulf of Carpentaria: TCWC - Darwin / Bureau of Meteorology
Coral Sea: TCWC - Brisbane / Bureau of Meteorology
Solomon Sea and Gulf of Papua: TCWC - Port Moresby / National Weather Service forecast office, Papua New Guinea
Tasman Sea: TCWC - Wellington, New Zealand / Meteorological Service of New Zealand Limited
Southeast Indian Ocean (north of 10S): TCWC - Jakarta / Meteorology and Geophysical Agency of Indonesia

"Invest" areas are regions of disturbed weather of particular interest to either of those two organizations. These areas are provided to us by the Tropical Cyclone Team at the Naval Research Laboratory in Monterey, CA.
